Some evidence on the relevance of bank behaviour for the lending channel in the Netherlands
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the behaviour of banks in the Netherlands. The adjustment of banks' balance sheets during monetary policy changes between 1957 to 1991 was examined. The effectiveness of direct and indirect instruments of monetary policy was then analyzed. Results indicated that bank loans are not affected during changes in the official interest rate. Findings also showed that banks support a buffer-stock behavior by reducing their publicly traded assets.

The natural rate moves! A review essay of Edmund Phelps' Structural Slumps
Article Abstract:
The book 'Structural Slumps, The Modern Equilibrium Theory of Unemployment, Interest and Assets' by Edmund Phelps claims that the structural approach is a new paradigm in economic theory and is the only explanation for constantly high unemployment rates. However, it is argued that the structural approach is similar to neo-classical macroeconomics while the results of assessments on its superiority remain inconclusive.
