Some lessons from 'developing' countries' trade policy reviews in the GATT framework: an enforcement perspective
Article Abstract:
An evaluation of specific reviews made by the GATT on selected developing countries known as Trade Policy Review Mechanism (TRPM) is made. The TRPM is an instrument for enforcing and monitoring the implementation of GATT provisions. Ten developing countries, representative of varying stages of development, serve as case studies. These are Morocco, Colombia, Thailand, Nigeria, Indonesia, Ghana, Egypt, Brazil, Bangladesh and Uruguay. In general, TRPM proves to be inadequate with respect to objectivity of reporting and appreciation of specific political and legal arrangements in those countries.

Trade liberalisation and the location of manufacturing firms
Article Abstract:
The impact of trade liberalization on the decision of businesses to relocate from one country to another has been examined. The study probes 'new economic geography' literature to demonstrate that trade liberalization can result in significant changes in the industrial structure of countries. Findings of the research reveal trade liberalization lead to losses and gains of industries for countries. As an example, labor intensive upstream firms in developing countries may attract capital intensive downstream firms.
