Tea and herbal tea
Article Abstract:
The United Kingdom retail market for tea grew less than 1% by volume and 3% by value to 666 million pounds sterling in 1996 from 1995. The market is expected to decline in the long term because of young consumers' growing preference for soft drinks. The market for loose tea is declining as it is preferred by older consumers, while the market for speciality teas and fruit and herbal teas has grown, although from relatively low bases. Brands accounted for about 76% of tea sales by value in 1996, with promotions having an increasingly important influence on consumers' purchasing decisions.
