The benefits to banks in selling and underwriting insurance: an empirical examination of the Delaware Law
Article Abstract:
The State of Delaware passed on May 30, 1990 a new banking law that authorizes state-chartered banks or state-chartered bank affiliates the power to sell and underwrite insurance in the entire country. The law promises to give the state's banking industry higher earnings from selling insurance. On the other hand, doubts are raised as to its ability to lessen banks vulnerability to interest rate threat by giving such financial institutions the power to underwrite insurance.
