The market's response to recurring events: the case of stock splits
Article Abstract:
The market uses previous stock split experience to interpret a recurring event. Firms with multiple stock splits during 1970-1988 were examined to determine the market's use of previous split experience in interpreting a recurring event. Findings reveal that stock price responses to stock splits and post-split earnings changes depend on earnings realizations noted after previous splits.
