The swing voter's curse
Article Abstract:
The swing voter's curse refers to the condition wherein uninformed voters are better off by abstaining from voting and letting their informed counterparts decide in a two-candidate election. Such conditions are defined by informational asymmetries, which influence participation and vote choice beyond costs to vote and pivot probabilities. Abstention in voting is observed across large election populations given a broad parameter range.
