The two faces of learning by cooperating: the evolution and stability of inter-firm agreements in the European electronics industry
Article Abstract:
An analysis of cooperative behavior prevalent in the European electronics industry reveals that the stability of collaborative ventures depends on firms' individual and collective learning experiences with the balance between irreversible and re-deployable resources determinant of future cooperative ventures. The success of joint ventures may spur firms to become more promiscuous and that firms may tend to generalize their assets leading to instability in the relationship.
