Transaction costs and price volatility: evidence from commission deregulation
Article Abstract:
An analysis of deregulation effects on transaction costs and price volatility reveals that a reduction in transaction commission produces an increase in transaction volume and the corresponding increase in transaction volume results in decreased price volatility. The study implies that an imposition of transaction taxes in securities trading would most likely result indirectly in increased price volatility and directly in increased transaction costs.
