Transnational coalitions among societal, state and international actors: GM, Ford and Hyundai in the Canadian anti-dumping case

Article Abstract:

Multinational companies in Canada, namely, General Motors and Ford Motor Co. filed an anti-dumping case against Hyundai cars of Korea on the grounds that Hyundai imports were greatly affecting their profits and employment levels. Revenue Canada lowered its anti-dumping tariffs. The factors which made Canada shift its foreign economic policy are examined. It is shown how the pressures of foreign government can influence policy outcomes in the home government.

Growth and trade prospects for Central and Eastern Europe

Article Abstract:

International trade prospects for Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union may be impossible to forecast based on a number of constraints. The degree of policy success based on ongoing economic changes would be hard to predict due to the lack of accurate data. Despite the limitations, a study is presented identifying the best and worst case scenarios of the impact of change on the trade and capital markets of Eastern and Central Europe.
