Trends and inequalities of rural welfare in China: evidence from rural households in Guangdong and Sichuan
Article Abstract:
Welfare inequalities in rural households in China during the latter part of the 1980s were investigated using Guangdong and Sichuan provinces as case studies. Results showed that rural inequality in China increased moderately during the second half of the 1980s, although inequality in Guangdong did not increase despite the rapid economic transition. There was no substantial evidence to prove a monotonic relationship between the pace of transition and inequality in rural welfare.
