Ukraine's merchandise trade from 2001-2007 was largely focused on low value added goods such as metal products to world markets, and particularly in the markets of its trading partners Russia and the European Union. Ukraine's competitive advantage on its partners' markets, and the application of duties and quotas on Ukraine's goods, are discussed.

European Union intends to improve its relations with its neighbors. Moldova is one of the countries in the east that is identified as the neighbor of the EU. The economic, political and cultural benefits emerging from this relationship are discussed.
