Wage determination under plan and early transition: Bulgarian evidence using matched employer-employee data
Article Abstract:
A study of employer-employee data in Bulgaria during planned regime and early transition period, analyzing the factors that determine the wages in these periods, is presented. As the labor markets become more and more market driven the importance of individual's skills becomes important. It is observed that the returns to education during transition almost doubled, depending on the skills required in the labor markets.

Has China crossed the river? The evolution of wage structure in urban China during reform and retrenchment
Article Abstract:
The factors affecting the urban wages in China from 1988 to 2002 are examined and analyzed. China underwent economic reforms during the period which ended state-owned enterprise sector. The period also witnessed retrenchment and shift towards private sector wherein pay is determined based on productivity.

Determinants of schooling returns during transition: evidence from Chinese cities
Article Abstract:
A study determining the factors that improved returns to schooling in Chinese cities during China's transition from the planned system to a more liberalized economic system is discussed.
