Who's Afraid of Franz Josef Strauss?
Article Abstract:
Franz Josef Strauss, premier of Bavaria and leader of conservative Christian Social Union, is a central figure in the West German political arena. A power struggle appears to exist between himself and Helmut Kohl, the federal chancellor. Strauss is characterized as having an uncontrollable tongue and temper. The personalities of Strauss and Kohl seem incompatible, and may have more influence on the outcome of their struggle than strategies or policies.
