Article Abstract:
The introduction of university admissions tests will only serve to exclude the people from poorer backgrounds that they aim to help, critics of the tests claim. While it is acknowledged that the current system of university admissions is under extreme strain, some argue that what is needed is wholesale reform of the A level system rather than the introduction of a new set of tests.

Deadlock as bosses issue talks ultimatum
Article Abstract:
Unions and employers have hit deadlock over negotiations over pay. Geoffrey Copland, chairman of the Universities and Colleges Employers' Association, has written to unions to say that no more talks could be held until industrial action was halted.
