Delay term to aid fair entry, say top v-cs
Article Abstract:
David Eastwood, vice-chancellor of the University of East Anglia, and Eric Thomas, vice-chancellor of Bristol University, have declared that they would be prepared to delay the start of the academic year in order to make it possible to select students once they have received their A-level results. While most university heads are in favour of a move towards an admissions system based on results rather than grade forecasts, Eastwood and Thomas are the first to publicly state that they would be prepared to delay the commencement of courses in order to make this a reality.

Oxford pins fortunes on postgraduates
Article Abstract:
Plans designed to help maintain Oxford University's world-class status and enable it to reduce its dependence on state grantscould see the number of postgraduate students at the university outnumbering undergraduates by 2020. According to internal strategy documents Oxford has agreed to increase total student numbers by nearly 2%/yr through postgraduate recruitment alone at least until 2009, a rate at which the number of postgraduates at the university would match the 11,000 undergraduates by 2016.
