25% wage hike for v-cs
Article Abstract:
Pay rises have topped 50 percent for a handful of vice-chancellors, prompting anger among lecturers' unions which have claimed a 23 percent pay rise over three years. The annual Times Higher pay survey has found that salaries for vice-chancellors have rise by a quarter in only three years, with some seeing pay rises of 61 percent between 2001-02 and 2004-05.

Academics are being offered training by Special Branch on how to 'recognise and respond' to possible violent extremism, according to the government's l atest draft guidance on Islamic extremism. The guidance says every university will have dedicated local Special Branch contacts available to train staff.

Under-strain USS moots higher retirement age
