A serial killer still lurking in the shadows
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars) that started in China in November 2002, the response to the outbreak, the way the disease spread and the response of the World Health Organisation to the outbreak. It is argued that while the outbreak of Sars was brought under control, unless the lessons of Sars are learned in the future the potential is there for other far more contagious new pathogens to arise and spread around the world.

Article Abstract:
An examination of the extent to which strong leaders, such as Hitler or Stalin, can effect sweeping political change. It is suggested that other than in exceptional circumstances, the individual only serves to retard or accelerate processes that are already evident within society and that, in the majority of cases, it is impossible to change the direction in which a society is traveling.
