A squalid habitat on the path to extinction
Article Abstract:
Palaeontologist Chris Stringer believes a computerized model of a Neanderthal's inner ear provides evidence that the Neanderthal is not an ancestor of the Cro-Magnon who existed in Europe around 35,000 years ago. Stringer previously caused much controversy with his research of fossilized skulls which he believes indicates that Cro-Magnon man cannot be related to Neanderthal man. Genetic research by other scientists supports Stringer's belief that modern man originated in Africa around 150,000 years ago.

Loan-rent=misery
Article Abstract:
Most students in the UK are spending two-thirds of their loan income on rent, according to the National Union of Students. However, rents in some universities now exceed the total value of the annual student loan. Rents rose by an average of 5% between 1997 to 1998 and 1998 to 1999, higher than the rate of inflation. The cheapest university accommodation is in the Northeast and Northwest, Wales and Scotland.
