...think universities must fight harder for academic freedom
Article Abstract:
The senior research officer of the Association of University Teachers argues that universities in the UK need to be more willing to defend what they think is important, despite their reliance on funding from the public purse. It is acknowledged that income could be put at risk, but it is contended that if standards are to be maintained, then institutions need to learn to say no to certain government initiatives.

UK kudos hit by fake degrees
Article Abstract:
Quality watchdogs have warned that the international reputation of UK universities is being endangered by the growing number of diploma mils using UK addresses to sell fake degrees. Inspectors around the world have become concerned that the overseas operations are using a loophole in UK law that allows them to register as universities in the country so long as they do not offer UK degrees.
