Always to care, never to kill: a declaration on euthanasia

The Ramsey Colloquium, an organization of Christian and Jewish theologians, philosophers, ethicists and scholars, states its position on euthanasia. It declares that killing is not a way of caring and draws on religious, moral, political and institutional knowledge to support its stand against mercy killing.

The movement to institutionalize a patient's right to die gained ground following the New Jersey Supreme Court's decision on the Karen Quinlan case. The ethics of the different varieties of passive and active euthanasia are discussed.

The euthanasia debate: a problem with self-determination
Article Abstract:
The euthanasia issue is not just a question of self-determination. It is a social decision involving the person to be killed and the person who would do the killing. Thus, the doctor plays an important part in euthanasia.
