The situation wherein universities across the United Kingdom charge high fees for staff car parking in the campus, citing a green agenda is criticized. The problems arising from this practice and efforts by universities to maintain an eco-friendly travel practices are discussed.

Applications fall as study options narrow

New admission rules at U.K. universities giving students fewer course options resulted in a fall in applications for degrees at some institutions. The rules led to an overall drop in applications of 9.2 per cent, although at 14 institutions the number of applications increased.
