Basic skills program connects school, work
Article Abstract:
The Applied Basic Skills Program of the Newark School system is presented. It was noticed that inner-city students easily lose interest in their studies because they cannot see the connection between what they are studying and real-life situations. Thus, the Newark program was implemented to show how skills learned in school are applied in the students' lives. Basic skills teachers and applied subject matter instructors co-teach subjects. For example, a lesson in mathematics would include an explanation by an auto mechanic on how the lessons learned are used in computations needed to repair acar.

Marketing education: administrators' thoughts on marketing education
Article Abstract:
Marketing programs conducted by marketing teachers depend on the support and understanding of school administrators for their successful implementation. School administrators give top priority to computer literacy in students and in marketing teachers. Administrators are supporters of articulation between marketing programs and curriculum integration and they believe in a close interaction between workplace and school. Marketing teachers should participate in developing school schedule and should develop leadership qualities.
