Article Abstract:
Bharati Mukherjee is a writer of Indian origin who now resides in California, where she is a university professor. She has written four novels, including 'The Holder of the World' and 'Jasmine'. Her work has met with international approval, though she is not given the same attention as some other Indian authors. Mukherjee was born of a Bengali Brahmin family in Calcutta. She was educated at a convent school and at the University of Baroda.
