Brain training
Article Abstract:
When lecturers think about helping students develop the skills needed to construct a cogent argument, it may be necessary for them to go back to basics as many students are either unaware of university conventions and terminology or do not yet have the underlying thinking skills on which to base critical thinking. Tips include making sure that the students actually do understand the conventions and terminology they are supposed to be using, assuming that the students will succeed if they are given enough guidance, and providing students with examples of good analytical writing.

Foggy ideas made clear
Article Abstract:
Issues relating to study skills, their relationship to personal-development planning and the way in which they can help students clarify their approach to studying are examined. It is acknowledged that one method alone will not help all students achieve their full potential, that while some students will not need to make extra commitments outside the regular bounds of a course, for others specialist guidance and additional help could be required.
