Braising standards
Article Abstract:
Children can benefit enormously from learning to cook yet the introduction of the national curriculum has resulted in the virtual disappearance of cooking in British primary schools while the cost of teaching cooking means that few secondary schools offer home economics. Cookery lessons in primary schools can incorporate mental arithmetic, science, history and geography, while developing children's awareness of nutritional needs and healthy diets. Further and higher education courses in cooking would help supply the cooks that Britain's restaurant and leisure industry so badly needs.

Can economics stem a drop in interest rates?
Article Abstract:
The poor public image of economists may be one reason UK universities are finding their courses on economics are losing popularity with students. Some observers have suggested students are concerned at the level of mathematics needed to study economics whilst others point out the subject has got a reputation for being tedious and hard to study. Yet economics has a major role to play in worldwide issues. It is hoped the Economist Amartya Sen's Nobel Prize award will help to restore the reputation of economics.
