Calls to change contract culture
Article Abstract:
Representatives from the Government, funding bodies and trade unions are to meet to review a concordat agreed in 1996 which had been designed to improve the careers and conditions of tens of thousands of researchers employed at universities in the UK on short-term contracts. It is widely acknowledged that the concordat has not been effective and that such researchers are still the "nomads" of the higher education world, living with the insecurity of fixed-term contracts.
