Classes for the masses
Article Abstract:
The provision of additional funding for UK higher education should partially come from citizens who are reaping the rewards of having had the benefit of higher education. The higher education service must widen its appeal to include adults who failed in the education service provided during their childhood. Higher education facilities must offer a larger variety of services and include further education students, to allow them the chance to progress. The UK Government is calling for 500,000 extra places in higher and further education establishments by the year 2002.

Concern at bid to move nurse education cash to Hefce
Article Abstract:
An intended transfer of funds from the nursing education's health department to the Higher Education Funding Council for England (Hefce) is causing concerns regarding the future of national workforce planning for nursing and other health professions. Critics of the proposal raise doubts on how student progression, future workforce needs of the health service and course provisions in universities could be strategically planned and provided if already insufficient funds are transferred to Hefce.
