Article Abstract:
Newcastle United has performed well, and this soccer team has also helped boost morale in the city of Newcastle, England. Good soccer teams cannot always help local economies, as is shown by the case of Liverpool. Spending in retail outlets may rise after a win, but not all this money stays within the region. Soccer can help a region establish an identity, and can also attract students and academics to the universities near where the teams play.
