Cybertech battle for campuses
Article Abstract:
The battles over the introduction of cyberspace technologies into universities is reminiscent of those over nuclear power, with some of the early high-tech visionaries urging restraint while a younger generation of corporate leaders and entrepreneurs portray cybertechnologies as a panacea for education. Cybertechnology advocates believe that the problems associated with rising student numbers and education costs can be solved by virtual universities and distance learning, while sceptics feel that not enough is known about the importance of real-time teaching to justify abandoning much of it.

The last laugh in learning
Article Abstract:
US educational achievement is average despite a drive to raise standards. Achievement levels in all countries surveyed tend to be higher for children from homes where students have study aids such as their own desk and a computer. This is not the case for many US children who grow up in poverty. Levels are also higher for children with parents who take an interest in education and this is not true for many US parents. Easterm Europe and Asia have a more supportive tradition with parents and teachers both contributing to children's education.
