De Montfort in exam furore
Article Abstract:
De Montfort University has been accused of abandoning academic standards after deciding to improve the exam results of some pharmacy degree students by up to 14% because their performance had been so poor. The move, which effectively lowered the pass mark on the course to 26%, was condemned by undergraduate external examiners for pharmacy but the university defended itself by saying that the alterations were "proper" and had been approved by the faculty's senior external examiner.

London Met exam marks to go out without external validation
Article Abstract:
London Metropolitan University (LMU) is to present a number of its students with their exam results without having the standards checked by external examiners as a result of an international academic boycott of LMU by a number of its external examiners in protest against the university's planned imposition of new staff contracts. The move by LMU has prompted claims that the university is putting its reputation at risk by ignoring academic standards.
