Dismal returns of micro-men
Article Abstract:
Issues relating to the downward trend being experienced by UK economics are examined in the light of falling numbers of people studying the subject at postgraduate, undergraduate and masters levels and a fall in the number of people taking economics A levels to under 20,000 in 2000-2001, vs over 32,000 in 1993-1994. It is argued that economics as a subject in the UK is having an hard time is because of its inability to shed light on everyday dilemmas as well as because of disillusionment with the way the subject is structured and taught.
