'If an enterprise receives billions to spend as it sees fit, it should not be surprised to be asked for proof that the money is being put to good use'
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the commitment to science of the British government and the reaction of educational establishments and researchers to the involvement of government in education. It is argued that the commitment of the government to science cannot be doubted, and rather than complaining when the government asks for proof that money is being spent sensibly and in productive ways, science researchers should instead work harder to show the applications of the work they are doing in order to secure government funding.
