Earth mother, microbe lover
Article Abstract:
Lynn Margolis is a biologist who favors the Gaia theory which sees the Earth as a living system. Many neo-Darwinists such as Richard Dawkins oppose her views, and scientists often see the Gaia theory as too mystical. Margolis argues that the theory leads us to ask questions that would otherwise remain unexplored, such as the composition of the Earth's atmosphere. She sees symbiogenesis as the key source of changes in evolution, not random genetic mutations which natural selection filters.

The origin of the specious?
Article Abstract:
Erasmus Darwin was the grandfather of Charles Darwin and he developed the idea of evolution in 1770, prior to the birth of Charles Darwin, who is famous for writing about evolution. Erasmus was a poet as well as a scientist. His scientific work included studies of warm and cold fronts, and an analysis of photosynthesis. His suggestion that species can change and its implications for religion brought criticism and attacks on his poetry.
