Easy living: universal design housing
Article Abstract:
Building trades students at the Charlottesville-Albermarle Technical Education Center in Charlottesville, VA, are constructing a universal design house behind the school. The universal design housing concept focuses on the construction of a house that suits the needs of both disabled and regular people. Design features include rooms that allow maneuvering in a wheelchair, wide doorways and casement windows. The project is expected to be completed by June 1996.

Selling self-interest
Article Abstract:
Schools can encourage employer interest in their work-based learning programs by emphasizing the benefits of these programs to employers and determining the obstacles to participation. Schools must also find companies whose need for employees make them willing to accept students. Steps must be taken to assure union members that students pose no threat to their jobs, while employers are more receptive to programs that send them the best students.
