Elegiac air honours more than lost lives
Article Abstract:
Examination of why it is appropriate that Elgar's Nimrod, from his Enigma Variations, should echo over the casualties of the war in Iraq. It is argued that when words fail to adequately express a sentiment, music is capable of speaking more eloquently, and that the compassionate strains of Nimrod are particularly appropriate for honouring the memory all of the victims of the conflict - be they servicemen, journalists or the Iraqi citizens.
