Rational seeds in the power of love
Article Abstract:
Theologian and political scientist Reinhold Niebuhr was born in 1892 and is remembered mainly for his efforts to combine ethical or moral goals and affairs of self interest such as those conducted by nations. Niebuhr wrote about the usefulness of Protestant theology in contemporary politics and social affairs. He argued that, following the second world war, American leadership of the world should have been based on theological considerations allied with a deep consideration of the past history of similar and parallel events.

During this period he finished the first draft of 'The Principles of Mathematics', which was published in 1903. The course of Bertrand Russell's fascination for mathematics is further discussed.
