Time to lock horns on the beauty debate
Article Abstract:
Art historians have tackled the issue of beauty at a conference at the University of Northumbria, England. Orlan, a French artist, has used cosmetic surgery to develop horns on her head, an act which could be interpreted as an exploration of identity. Meanwhile, an art historian from Derby University, John Lynch, argues that erotic beauty and disease have become linked due to fear of AIDS. Other historians have examined gender and notions of beauty.

Cartel in awards slammed
Article Abstract:
The Business and Technology Education Council and City and Guilds external assessments bodies have been accused of running a qualifications cartel, whereby qualifications are awarded according to price rather than merit. Fees have been raised by 23% and advertising costs are allegedly wasteful. Both bodies have denied the claims and have justified their advertising costs as being necessary because of competition within the other awarding bodies.
