How does an expert join the ranks of the fame academy?
Article Abstract:
With the death over the last year of big-name writers in the field of academia such as Max Perutz, Stephen Ambrose, John Rawls, Pierre Bourdieu and Stephen Jay Gould, publishers and agents are asked who will step into their shoes and what is required for a scholar to become famous beyond their field. Tips for achieving mainstream success include learning how to tell a story, being enthusiastic about the subject, choosing the subject carefully with an eye to what might interest the general public, getting some form of TV exposure - be it a series or an one-off special and being prepared to be charming at public events.

The man who moved Mt Sinai
Article Abstract:
The life and work of Colin Humphreys, professor of materials science at the University of Cambridge, is examined in the light of the publication of his book "The Miracles of Exodus". Humphreys attempts in his book to subject the Bible to academic rigour, explaining the 10 plagues, replotting the route of the Israelites' exodus from Egypt and moving the accepted location of Mount Sinai from the Sinai Peninsula to Saudi Arabia.
