Escape the RAE knife
Article Abstract:
The vice-chancellor of Buckingham University, the only university in the UK that is independent of the research assessment exercise (RAE), calls for universities with world class departments that are threatened with closure because they cannot, for various reasons, achieve the highest marks in the RAE and therefore cannot get the necessary funding to stay open, to transfer these departments to Buckingham where they will be able to operate in a more realistic and sensible environment.
