Ethical challenge to the digital darker side
Article Abstract:
Carol Gigliotti works for a US company seeking to change education by using technology, called Tri-Rivers Educational Computing Association. She is an art educator and artist, and will move to Vancouver in Jul 1999, where she will work at Tech BC, a university that focuses on interactive arts and information technology. She argues that artists have to use technology that they have not produced and this tends to reinforce accepted values. She sees parenting and teaching as sources of social change.

SuperJANET fights shy of backbone role
Article Abstract:
The UK academic information superhighway, SuperJANET, should not be used as a backbone for a national network, argues Alistair Chalmers, chairman of the committee supervising SuperJANET. The UK Labor Party is proposing a national superhighway linking libraries, hospitals and schools, but British Telecom denies that an agreement has been made with the party on this issue. The likely outcome is for several networks to be set up with connections made throughout the internet.
