Even rent-free students should quit costly capital, says report
Article Abstract:
Students in London, UK, would be better off if they quit the city, even if it meant leaving rent-free rooms at home and paying for accommodation at another university, according to a report produced by Claire Callender, professor of social policy at London South Bank University, and commissioned by the Greater London Authority. The report states that the cost of being a student in London has risen almost twice as quickly as the cost of studying outside the capital since the introduction of tuition fees in 1998 and that this has caused a polarisation of study in London, with rich students able to afford to come and study at the elite institutions, while poorer students in London have been unable to afford to leave and therefore end up studying at the less-prestigious institutions.
