F is for Freud and for feminism
Article Abstract:
Jacqueline Rose is a committed feminist who believes that pyschoanalysis is an important part of feminism, since it allows exploration of such areas as unconcious sexuality and identification of self. Her views are often opposed by feminists who believe the male version of pyschoanalysis is suspect, and believe that Rose's aim of combining feminist political demands and pyschoanalysis could hinder them in their battle to change the way society views women. Rose applied her theory in her book 'The Haunting of Sylvia Plath' which looks at the works of Sylvia Plath an American poet who committed suicide after her husband Ted Hughes, UK poet laureate left her.

It's the way they tell it
Article Abstract:
Literary biographies, both authorised and unauthorised, have been a popular field for academics and some have sold many copies. Some observers feel that too much emphasis is sometimes placed on the subject's sexual life and mental state. The authorised biographies are often preferred by major publishers, although those in control of the subject's papers may want to have a say in the work. Unauthorised biographers may have insufficient information to do a competent job.
