Face-saving measures
Article Abstract:
Facial defects are found in one in every 700 new babies born in the US. Without help the sufferers will face a life of feeling excluded and discriminated against in school, the workplace and in society. It is hoped research into the genes which are responsible for the development of the face will help scientists develop gene therapy to prevent facial defects. Research is being undertaken to find ways to stop the progression of a faulty gene which causes the discoloured teeth found in a number of people living in Brandywine, Maryland, US.
