Fervour of a rational treasure
Article Abstract:
The books of Richard Dawkins, biologist and author of such books as "The Selfish Gene" and "The Blind Watchmaker", are written in a way that his professional colleagues will not find patronising but in a way that the general public will also understand. Dawkins believes that more scientists should write this way, arguing that historians do not write in a way that excludes lay people, so why should scientists. Dawkins also likes to take on forms of pseudo-science and mysticism that he feels play on people's gullibility. He criticises things such as astrology and religion and does not feel that it is possible to reconcile science and religion.

Let's hear it for silent hero of an epic quest
Article Abstract:
Film-maker Kevin Brownlow has become the leading film historian in the UK, with a particular passion for movies from the silent era. Brownlow's passion for silent films resulted in his production of the book "The Parade's Gone By" in 1968, a work that served to rehabilitate numerous forgotten film-makers and films. Brownlow is best known for his involvement in the restoration of Abel Gance's epic film Napoleon, which now runs five and an half hours long.
