Colin Blakemore, chief executive of the Medical Research Council (MRC), notes that while the MRC is keen to invest in researchers who are prepared to take risks, he would advise young researchers to take control over their future and consider developing a strategy for carving out their own reputation. He contends that young researchers have to recognise that they need to find a way to sell themselves effectively.

Skies stay dark for astronomy postdocs
Article Abstract:
Just 20% of astronomy PhD students will secure jobs in their field, according to a report produced by the Royal Astronomical Society. The report also found that for many of those lucky enough to find employment in their specialism, they will have to move abroad to do so.
