'Flawed plans' rapped by Hepi
Article Abstract:
The Higher Education Policy Insititute (Hepi) has attacked the Government's proposals for a metrics-based system to replace the RAE as contradictory and lacking in evidence. The government's consultation has been criticised for giving no basus for the policy decisions made and for not discussing likely effects that proposals would have on behaviour of institutions and individuals.

RAE raises UK journal activity
Article Abstract:
As a result of the research assessment exercise, the share of the world's research citations commanded by UK institutions and researchers rose to 12% in 2002, vs 10.5% in 1981, according to Jonathan Adams, head of Evidence Ltd, an higher education research company. Adams contends that an increase in the global share of citations indicates an increase in relative quality.
