County Hall veto forces LSE rethink
Article Abstract:
County Hall, the former headquarters of the Greater London Council, will probably be sold to a Japanese corporation and not to the London School of Economics (LSE.) This will force the LSE to reduce its undergraduate numbers in favour of graduates due to lack of space. If the LSE's bid had been successful, they were planning to expand numbers from 4,500 to 7,000 by 1997. The Japanese company who bid successfully, Shirayama, want to make the building into a top-class hotel.

Defining the State of Europe
Article Abstract:
There is increasing interest in academic European Studies in both the United States and Europe, but there is also ignorance about the region, Europe is not an easy concept to define, in terms of geography, values or ideology. There is also difficulty combining studies on Eastern and Western Europe, since these have tended to be separate academic areas, though there is more integration in terms of east and west studies in United Kingdom higher educational establishments.
