Gag money rejected
Article Abstract:
Aubrey Blumsohn, senior lecturer at Sheffield University's Bone Metabolism Research Unit and whistleblower about the conduct of a Sheffield University study with Procter & Gamble, drug company, into the company's osteoporosis drug Actonel, has rejected a UKPd145,000 payoff from the university which would have effectively gagged him from talking about the issue. Blumsohn states that accepting the gagging clause and returning the research data would have compromised debate about the issue.

Wake up, activist are pounding on doors of ivory towers
Article Abstract:
While academics promote the ideology of multiculturalism, it is often only to serve their own goals argues the editor of "From Homebreakers to Jailbreakers: Southall Black Sisters". It is contended that academic research often fails to really address or engage with the ideas of the activist they study, and that academics are often more interested in texts than in the reality of the situations they are supposed to be studying.

Make contacts--accost the great and the good
Article Abstract:
An examination of how academics and scholars can use networking to help clarify their thinking and improve their work. It is acknowledged that there is a level of dislike of networking in the United Kingdom but it is argued that networking makes good academic sense, especially in an increasingly fast-paced world in which it is becoming ever easier to stay in contact with other people, no matter where they are.
