Viva Spain's king of the republicans
Article Abstract:
Paul Preston, author of "Juan Carlos: A People's King" and Principe de Asturias professor of Spanish history at the London School of Economics, describes the democratic system in Spain and how the country has King Juan Carlos to thank for steering it away from authoritarianism in the aftermath of the death of the dictator Francisco Franco in 1975. Preston notes that while Juan Carlos was not solely responsible for the return to democracy, his stamina, courage and judgement were crucial to the success of the process.

Article Abstract:
An analysis of the democratic system in Greece. Greece went from being a country with a controlled democracy, run by authoritarian rightwingers, during the period from 1949 to 1967, followed by a period of military dictatorship between 1967 and 1974, to a more recognisable form of modern democracy that exists up to today.
