Hotheads tempered in reports of blow-up
Article Abstract:
Issues relating to the work of volcanologists and the science of predicting volcanic eruptions are examined with specific reference to the situation on the Caribbean island of Montserrat, where the Soufriere Hills volcano dominates the lives of its residents, and the creation of the Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO). In order to deal with the melange of often conflicting opinions about the state of a volcano, the MVO has introduced a method of forming collective judgments that involves weighting the opinions of each scientist against their perceived abilities.

Science makes sense, but let's abandon peace
Article Abstract:
The Nobel science prizes are more easily definable than the peace or literature awards, but they too could be improved. Fields other than physics, chemistry, medicine, and physiology are excluded from consideration, and many important research projects are therefore ignored. Limits on the number of winners may also leave out some worthy scientists.

Mosquito or an airborne vaccinator?
Article Abstract:
